We were all forced to rise and shine, bright and early this morning. Griffin and Ruthie resumed school today. And because I worked, we started our morning even earlier than “normal”.
The sound of my alarm was a reminder that like it or not, Christmas Break had come to a close.
I was dreading getting everyone up, and out the door.
However, Griffin, made the task easy as he woke up on his own. And much to my surprise, Ruthie, awoke without much effort.
With, Griffin and Ruthie, nearly ready, I went to get, Owen, up. Even on a good day, he can be a bit of a bear in the morning.
“Owen, it is time to get up.”
He didn’t move. Great. I began to prepare for the battle that was destined to follow.
As I pulled him onto my lap, and began to dress him, surprisingly he cooperated.
“Wow! This morning is going much better than I anticipated,” I thought to myself.
Just when I was making wonderful progress, Griffin entered the room.
“Mom, where are my new shoes?”
As I answered him, Owen, took full advantage of the distraction. He crawled off of my lap, and back into his bed.
As I turned to pull him back out of bed, I said, “Come on. Let’s go…”.
However, I soon discovered, he wasn’t laying down. No instead, he was sitting on his pillow, and pulling on his sheet.
“What are you doing?”
“I am making my bed. You said we should make our bed everyday, so I’m making it.”
You are right, Buddy. That’s what I said.
Hmmm…so let me get this straight, you decide to listen when we need to be walking out the door?
I’ll take it.
