Our Christmas cards this year were truly a labor of love.
Last year the kids and I created our Christmas cards. You can view them on my post titled, “Christmas Cards of the Past”. The kids fingerprints were used to create snowmen.
I really enjoyed making the cards last year, so I decided to do it again this year.
As I searched for another idea, I came across several images for fingerprint cards. I knew I had found the “winner” when I came across a picture of Santa’s sleigh being pulled by reindeer. It was perfect! I found the idea for this year’s card at www.homeschooldistractions.com/.
This is our version:
Each child contributed to the card. Griffin’s fingerprints made the sleigh. Ruthie formed the reindeer, and the “most famous reindeer of all” was created by Owen. Santa’s face was created by whomever was willing…sometimes that left only me!
When I decided to make this card, I was unaware of two things.
- My (lacking) artistic abilities would be challenged – I had a hard time creating Santa’s face, particularly his mouth and beard. As a result, several cards were lost during production. They simply did not pass quality control.
- I would become ill during the production phase – This put a major hindrance on production. Thus, creating a delay in shipment, and it almost caused us to miss our deadline.
We, however, managed to get the job done, and in the process we had some fun.
And just like last year, each card is unique.
While this card, I am certain is depicting the end of the night. Rudolph is ready to get back home. He is flying so fast, Santa, is about to come out of the sleigh!
I choose to make our cards, because I enjoy making them. More than that, I enjoy spending time with my children, and talking to them as we make the cards. It is a moment to cherish. And also a moment to laugh…
I jokingly told the kids, “You better not plan on committing any crimes”.
Ruthie spoke up, “Why?”.
“We are sending your fingerprints out to a whole lot of people. If you did something, they would have proof it was you.”
“Were you planning on committing any crimes?”
