Sometimes just getting started is the hardest part. This is true for Owen this week.
Getting him up for school has been a bit of a challenge – thankfully, he only goes three days a week!
The fun began on Monday morning. It was pajama day at his school. I thought he would be excited. I was wrong.
“Owen, you have to get up. Its pajama day. Aren’t you excited?”
“No. I don’t want to wear my pajamas to school. That would just look silly! Everyone will laugh at me!”
I tried to explain that all of his classmates would be wearing their PJs as well.
“It will be fun!”
Reluctantly, he began to emerge from his bed.
In addition to it being pajama day, he was supposed to watch “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”. His teacher was even going to paint his nose red! Certainly he would be excited for that? No. Wrong again.
“And, your teacher will paint your nose red!”
“I am not doing that.”
“That will look really silly!”
I managed to get him to school with his pajamas on. His teacher could deal with the nose painting. And besides, once he saw how much fun everyone was having, he would change his mind, right? Nope. Not a chance.
I was unable to pick him up from school that day. Thankfully, my dad came to my aid.
When I arrived at my parents house to get, Owen, I immediately noticed that his nose had not been painted.
“Owen, why didn’t you get your nose painted?”
“I told you I didn’t want to look silly. Besides, all she had was red paint. I wanted a black nose.”
Apparently we will have to reread the book or watch the movie again. After all, it is the Rudolph the RED nosed reindeer.
“Well, you should have been nice about it.”
“I was nice about it. I said ‘No, thank you’. And, I DID wear the antlers she gave me.”
A short while later, it was time for us to go home. And that is when I noticed something. His shoes. They didn’t match. Not even close.
Good thing we didn’t have a red nose. That would have been silly.
Miss matched shoes, however? No big deal.
