So many stories, so little time.
So before anymore time escapes me, here it goes…
It was July 5th. The kids and I had watched a fireworks display the previous evening. I was still feeling very patriotic following the Fourth of July.
While, I was emptying the dishwasher, I began singing along with the radio.
“…and I am proud to be an American…”
At that exact moment, Owen, came busting through the room.
“I am not American. I am British.”
Now, if you haven’t seen the preview for the new Disney’s Planes movie here it is.
Owen, has seen this preview, and it would appear he enjoys trying to imitate the voice of the plane at the end of the video. You guessed it. The British plane.
While I knew he was just being silly (or so I thought), I thought this was a teachable moment.
“Now you know we live in the United States of America. That makes us Americans.”
In his British, Planes accent, “Nope. I am British.”
Seeing that this conversation was going nowhere fast, I sent him on his way. I was quickly back to the task of emptying the dishwasher, and singing along with the radio.
“…There ain’t no doubt I love this land…God bless the USA…”
And running through the kitchen, yet again was Owen. This time he was carrying a foam sword, and yelling, “I AM A NINJA!”.
So, as the weekend comes to a close, may I just say – I hope you and your family had a wonderful Fourth of July – from my American, British, Ninja (and whatever else Owen can dream up)…..family!
