Sometimes just getting out the door proves to be a challenge at our house. Yesterday was no exception to this.
I worked, so that meant we had to get up early. And, like usual, the clock was moving faster than we were.
Somehow, however, we managed to get ready.
As the kids put on their shoes, I gathered some last minute things. I grabbed my purse and my phone, a cup of water, and a snack for later. Then, I glanced at the clock. Hmm. We weren’t doing as bad as I thought. And then I heard Griffin.
“Mom, don’t I have soccer practice today?”
Oh crud. I had completely forgotten.
Just prior to this, I thought we had our act together. We were going to leave on time. However, I did not see this curveball coming.
Surprisingly, it was, Griff, that devised a plan.
“Mom, grab my clothes while I get my soccer shoes, shin guards, and ball.”
We worked quickly, and moments later, Griffin and I, had his soccer gear together.
I glanced at the clock again. Great! We were still leaving on time. Although, what was even more impressive was that, Griffin, remembered he had soccer practice, and that he moved so quickly.
You see, Griffin is usually forgetful. He forgets his homework at school, he forgets to turn in papers to his teacher, he forgets to put things away when asked…you get the idea.
He, also, is usually the kid I am waiting on. He is the first child out of bed, and is always the last one ready. He is the last to get his shoes on, the last to grab his jacket…again, you get the idea.
“Griffin, I’m proud of you. You remembered you had soccer practice, and you got your stuff together quickly.”
“I know. I’m awesome!”
Yes, Buddy, you are.
And, as luck would have it, it rained. Soccer practice was canceled.
Only at my house,
