As the weekend drew to a close, I made my best effort to get everyone to bed at a reasonable time. I asked them earlier in the day to make sure they had their school things together – folders and library books in their backpacks as tomorrow is library day. If I said this once, I said it a dozen times.
The kids took their showers early. I
bribed them told them if they picked up all of their things that they had scattered all over the floor, we could play a game of Uno. I again reminded them to make sure they had their library books in their backpacks. I didn’t want any delays in the morning.
We managed to play several games of the card game, before I declared it bedtime.
“Everyone go to the restroom, and brush your teeth.”
Now, you would think, eventually I wouldn’t have to provide this public service announcement.
But, then again…
Griffin came out of the bathroom.
“Did you brush your teeth?”
“Oh, was I supposed to do that?”
Yes, dear. We brush our teeth twice a day. Always have. Always will.
After a nightly prayer I proceeded to tell my children good night. I was standing in the boys’ room, so they were first. I then made my way to Ruthie’s room when I spotted them – library books on her bedside table.
