Surely, I am not the only person to make silly mistakes.
Let me start at the beginning…
We have a flexible spending account. If you are not familiar with this type of account, it is for medical expenses. A specified amount of money is withheld from Dan’s paycheck, and is placed into this account.
There are several benefits to this. For one thing, the money that is withheld is pre tax. As an additional benefit, Dan’s employer matches our contributions to a certain dollar amount.
All of this equates to saving money, which is something that I love.
For convenience, we were issued a Benny card. It is a debit card that is associated with our flexible spending account. The card can be used at a doctor’s office, at a hospital, when filling prescriptions, and when paying medical bills.
It, however, can NOT be used at a car wash.
I know. I tried several years ago.
OK, so I didn’t do it on purpose. I was in a hurry when I arrived at the car wash. I quickly swiped my card, only to discover it was declined moments later. That didn’t make any sense, so I swiped it again. And again, it was declined. I was convinced something was wrong with the card reader. I backed my truck up and drove off. It was hours later when I realized what I had done. I had used the wrong card!
Now, fast forward to this week…
After I left work on Thursday, I decided to go through a local drive thru. I placed my order, and proceeded to pay. Or so I thought…
“I am sorry. It is declining this card.”
What? That is impossible! Wait a minute.
“Which card did I give you?”
My Benny card.
While there are several benefits to the Benny card, there are no benefits to using it at a car wash or a fast food drive thru. Nope. Not a one.
