Alcohol and Underpants

I was recently invited to a bridal shower. It was a themed shower – A liquor and lingerie shower to be more exact.

Although I was unable to attend, I still wanted to send a gift. I attempted to browse Pinterest for some inspiration. While I could find plenty of invitations for such a party, finding clever gift ideas proved be a little more difficult. However, I finally stumbled across an idea that I thought would work.

Here is the Pinterest version of this gift:

* I would give credit to the person who came up with this clever idea, but I couldn’t find their name or a link.

Now that I had an idea, it was time to start gathering supplies for this project. I remembered seeing plastic buckets at Dollar Tree when I had made the snack basket for my kids. As luck would have it, when I got to the store there was only one left. So, there was no debating on which color to get.

 Plum it was.

Because my tissue paper always seems to vanish, I picked up some of that while I was there too.

At various other stores, I purchased…

tulle, a gift card, a pair of thong panties, and grape Smirnoff.

I didn’t have a lot of time when I bought all of these things. While I normally would have stood in front of the alcohol and debated what type to buy, I simply grabbed the first thing I spotted which would match my bucket. Problem solved. Moving on.

Once I finally made it home from my shift at the Mom Taxi, I began to work on assembling the gift. Although, I would have liked to have worked on this after my kids went to bed, there simply wasn’t time. The shower was the next day, and this project needed to be completed.

I started by filling the bottom of the basket with plastic sacks.

This provided a cushion for the glass bottles, and prevented them from sinking to the bottom of the bucket. I then dressed the bucket with the thong panties. Next, I wrapped each bottle with tissue paper, and placed into the bucket.

After I completed those tasks, I began focusing my attention on making a veil.

When I purchased the tulle I wondered exactly how much I would need. I considered buying half of a yard as I thought that would be plenty, but I wasn’t sure. One thing I did know for certain – I wasn’t going to go back to the store, so I bought a yard to be safe. Guess what? I used half of that. Half a yard would have been plenty.

I doubled one end of the tulle, and tied white curling ribbon near the end. Next, I spread out the portion of the tulle that had been doubled over, so it looked like this:

I used the ends of the ribbon to attach the veil to the bucket. I simply taped the ribbon to the inside of the bucket. **Although in hindsight, I would highly recommend doing this BEFORE placing the glass bottles in the bucket. Otherwise you will find yourself moving the bottles you just carefully placed in the bucket to attach the veil.

It was at about this time, Owen, wondered into the kitchen.

“What is THAT for?”

I simply stated it was a gift for a party that I had been invited to.

“Let me get this straight. You were invited to an alcohol and underpant party? Ha! That is SO funny!”

It was SO funny he had to tell everyone in the house what I was up to.

“Guys! Mom is going to an alcohol and underpant party! Ha! Ha!”

Somehow, I managed to complete my task.

Here is my version of an alcohol and underpant liquor and lingerie gift:

To which, Griffin said it looked “very nice” {insert sarcasm}. He couldn’t even keep a straight face as he said it. Apparently underpants on the outside of a bucket is hilarious!

If trying to duplicate this gift, I would suggest considering how you are going to attach the “funny” panties to the bucket.

imageI thought they would just “stay up” once pulled in place. Wrong! They fell back down. Perhaps it was the shape of my bucket, but that didn’t work. I ended up taking curling ribbon and tying a knot around the panties. I then took the other end of the ribbon, and tied another knot around the handles of the bucket. I added some more ribbon to cover my knots.

Next stop for the bride?

Well, down the aisle of course!

So, there you have it – An alcohol and underpant liquor and lingerie inspired gift.
